Pencil Bag.

I made a pencil bag today with some really nice fabric. I just took a picture in Photobooth so it doesn’t do the color contrast any justice. But the orange is a really rich orange and the brown with white polka dots for the lining is fantastic. I used the tutorial over at Twelve22.

My mother’s bathroom is done up in black and white. These are just hand towels I bought at Target (there 2 pack is $1.58!) and did up some scraps of fabric to sew on the bottoms. I wish I could take credit for these babies but I found the tutorial at Sew, Mama, Sew! I haven’t posted my other projects I’ve been working on because it’s sort of a big package. Har har har.

Cold Weather and Magnets.

One thing I love about the cold weather is hats, scarves and long sleeve shirts. This just happens to be a snug hoodie pulled down a little. It was a nice day though. Still sunny enough but the wind made you go buuurrrrrr!

Also, I decided to make some magnets for my friend that I saw over at Peptogirl! The Marble Magnets tutorial was really quiet easy and once I figured out the glue situation, it was a breeze. Go check it out. I think I’ll end up doing some with fabric….maybe. Have a good night everyone. I am going to enjoy my sleep so I can post what I slaved away for the past few hours on. NIGHT!

Sneeze…sneeze…blow!

So with the lovely cold starting to head in (and out, darn you confusing weather!) my nose has been going completely nuts! And since I like to think I help out mother nature here and there, I was happy when my gma decided to give me some adorable handkerchiefs today! I’ve figured out I have a mold allergy so I was researching a lot of things and saw a Neti Pot was a good solution. I hated those people who always said, oh my life changed when I got one. It was the best decision I’ve ever made! Blah blah. But now I know what they mean. I went and bought one at Whole Foods today and since I used it (about 30 minutes ago) I haven’t had to sneeze or blow my nose. Thank you!!!

Tonight I decided to make a few more projects. Soooo I started with some tissue holders that I found here. They were probably the easiest thing ever. And the tutorial was easy to understand. Once I got finished with one, I immediately turned around and made another one!

Next up was a wristlet! I found the tutorial here. This one made my head hurt a little. It was my first time working with zippers. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I made some notes about the pattern though of how I’ll tweak it next time I make another one. Personal preference. Nothing is wrong with that pattern though. It was fun to make!

Last but definitely not least, I decided to make a batch up of cookies. Yum.

2nd Quilted Wallet.

The second I got finished with my first quilted wallet, I immediately wanted to make a much better one. I really improved a lot. The outside was much much better. I knew what I was doing. So here it is. The finished 2nd quilted wallet. I made a little pocket for my lip balm and the bottom pockets still turned out smaller than I was wanting. So, I guess it’s 3rd times the charm?

Oh, it’s a little wobbled on the left side because that’s where the lip balm is. If that was out it’d lay perfectly straight. I’m a lot more pleased with my 2nd one. I can’t wait to see what the 3rd and 4th look like.

Cut two pieces of fabric out to desired size.

Cut out a piece of fusible fleece a little smaller than previous.

Make a sandwich with all three, fabric right sides together.

Fuse with iron.

Sew fabric together on the outside of fleece, leaving a piece.

Turn inside out, press again and use.

I didn’t have a glass at the time so I grabbed my candle to take a shot.

This sits on the edge of my sewing table just waiting to be used.

First Project Complete!

This time last weekend I embarked on a journey to finally sew something! My very first thing ever sewn with my Singer 4830 I bought off of craigslist.com for about 70 bucks. Hey, Christmas is coming– homemade Christmas that is and I needed to get going! I instantly wanted this the second I saw it. A quilted wallet by that darn kat!

I wasn’t really too pleased with how this turned out. I made some stitching errors and I didn’t leave enough fabric when I sewed it because when it was time to turn it inside out, I failed. You can see at the bottom right where all the fabric is fluffed out. If you’d like to see the step by step pictures, click here. Like I said, not pleased but definitely not being too hard on myself considering this was my very first sewing project. (Honestly, I had only tested the many designs on a scrap piece of fabric before this. In fact, I made a simple coaster AFTER this wallet. I think I had that backwards.)
